EVERYTHING HAPPENS IN THE KITCHEN. LIFE HAPPENS IN THE KITCHEN. - andrew zimmern -
No home is complete without a kitchen. It’s the central hub of the home and the most important space for storage of your appliances, tools, dishes, cooking utensils, baking and cooking supplies. An organized kitchen creates an inviting environment and ease while working in the kitchen. Here are some practical tips to have a functional kitchen.
ZONING
Before you start decluttering or organizing your kitchen, identify the different zones according to the different ways you use your kitchen.
Kitchen cleaning and cleaning supplies, food storage (pantry and refrigerator), meal preparation and cooking equipment, serving pieces (dishes, glasses, cutlery), etc.
Zoning provides you a better idea about whether you need to buy a new storage or organizing supplies to make your kitchen functional.
FREQUENCY of use
Place most frequently used items within reach.
If your family loves to have coffee and tea throughout the day, creating a coffee/tea bar is a must. If space does not allow it, make sure all your coffee and tea supplies and equipment are placed in one spot for easy access.
Cooking utensils like spatulas, potholders, spices and condiments should be placed close by the stove and within reach.
Seasonal dishes and small appliances that are used infrequently can be stored above the fridge, at the top of the cabinet or even at the basement.
VERTICAL SPACE
Take advantage of vertical space!
This is the best way to keep your counter clear so you can maximize food prep space.
Under the cabinets, the back of your cabinet door, walls and the side of the fridge are perfect areas to mount hooks or self adhesive wall mounted storage shelves to hang cooking utensils, paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc.
