SPRING

A time TO REFRESH EVERY AREA IN YOUR HOME.

As spring arrives and warmer days come, it’s a perfect time to refresh our homes!

Let’s get on cleaning and organizing one area at a time.

ENTRYWAY

First impressions matter! When people step into your home, it’s the first area where they are greeted. That’s why this should be the first space you should tackle when you are spring organizing. Clear out any lingering winter coats, boots, mittens and other winter gear. Remove winter rugs, clean floors, and lay down your spring mats! A vase of flowers will complete that cheery spring welcome!

LIVING ROOM

The living room is made for ‘living.’ Since it is where everyone gathers, chaos and clutter dominate this room most of the time. It’s time to remove and replace any winter theme decor, pillows, and throw blankets. Invest in a woven basket or two to hide toys and reading materials, throw blankets, etc. They are versatile, functional pieces that add warmth and style to your living room.

KITCHEN

The kitchen is the heart of the home, but it is also the most likely space to accumulate clutter. As with any home organization project, always begin by paring down to only what you actually use. Move the hardest-working utensils (cookware, knives, cutting boards, tongs, bowls, etc. ) front and center and get rid of seldom-used single-purpose tools. If you find yourself unsure of whether to get rid of a kitchen item or appliance, try the box or bag method. Put the items in a box or bag and stick them in the basement, garage, or other spot that’s out of the way. Set a reminder for a month. If you have used an item before the one-month reminder, keep it. If you haven’t missed it at all, it’s time to donate, recycle or sell it!

BEDROOM

A bedroom is a place of solace and rest. However, it is the least organized space in their homes for many. Another factor that has risen since the COVID-19 pandemic was the work-from-home setup. As a result, those who do not have a separate room for a home office use their bedrooms as a workspace. It can be overwhelming to organize your bedroom. Let’s start small. Peek under your bed! Take inventory of the items inside the storage box or bag. If you haven’t used them for over a year, it’s time to let go. Donate, give, or sell them!

LINEN CLOSET

Your linen closet may not be at the top of your to-do list, but organizing it once a year will enable you to find things when you need them. If your linen closet is overflowing with years - maybe even decades- of accumulated towels, bedding, and sheets, it’s time to take a good inventory! Choose the best and donate the rest. Drop any old linens that are in bad shape in a textile recycling bin.

BATHROOM

It’s where we prepare for the day ahead, unwind, and relax in the evening. However, cabinets, drawers, and sometimes even the countertop are filled with bath and beauty products. It’s time to eliminate unwanted products and clutter! Ruthlessly sort through your bath and beauty products. Toss out everything you do not use. Recycle the containers if possible. Having an organized bathroom is much more relaxing to start and end the day in a clutter-free, calming space!

HOME LIBRARY

If your family loves reading, then you most likely have a home library. It can be fun organizing your book collection; however, when you have more books than shelf space, the problem arises. Follow the 1 in, 1 out rule. Replace books you have already read with new ones. Sort through your collection and donate ‘read’ or unwanted books to a local library or thrift store. If you want to make extra cash, take them to a local used-book seller.

GARDEN SHED

A garden shed helps you not only keep your backyard looking neat and tidy. But this space can easily get messy! It’s easy to toss garden tools, potting mix, and unfinished projects in our sheds and then close the door. It’s time to take charge! Toss out worn-out gloves, long-expired seed packets, broken pots and other garden tools. Hacks like adding shelves, using wall hooks, and creating overhead storage racks can maximize your available storage space.

Happy spring organizing, friends! :)
